Which perfumes are good for winter?
The warm, dense ones: vanilla, amber, tonka bean, smoky woods, patchouli, spices, and sweet notes like caramel and praline. The cold keeps a scent low and close to you, so what felt like “too much” in July is just right in December.
What to look for
- Vanilla, tonka bean, praline — the sweetness of winter: warm, soft, a hug in a bottle.
- Amber and musk — the base that lasts for hours and “dresses” everything else in the perfume.
- Woods, smoke, leather — for evenings, for a winter coat, for anyone who doesn’t want sweet.
- Spices — cinnamon, cardamom, pepper; just a little warms up the whole blend.
- One flower among the heavy notes — rose or iris over woods, the most elegant winter shape.
See all the notes together on the notes map and choose from the family you already like.
Why your summer perfume “fades”
Fresh notes, citrus, aquatic and green, are made to evaporate quickly. Heat lifts them and makes them “shout”; the cold keeps them down, and after a few minutes you can’t notice them any more. Your perfume hasn’t gone off, the season has simply changed. Keep it for spring, and for the other way round, see what suits the warm months in summer perfumes.
How to wear it in the cold
- On moisturised skin. Winter dries you out, and dry skin “drinks” perfume. Apply a cream or body oil in the same scent first, then spray. Have a look at our body care products.
- A little on your clothes. A scarf or jumper holds the scent all day. Spray from a distance, and not on silk or light-coloured fabrics.
- Essence. If you want the same perfume more intense, you can raise its concentration with extra essence for +1 € per ml.
- Fewer sprays than you think. A heavy perfume in a closed, heated room travels far. Two sprays are enough.
As a gift
Winter perfumes are the easiest gift, because almost everyone loves vanilla and amber. If you don’t know what they wear, the Discovery set with five vials of your choice leaves the decision to them. And for something more complete, see the gift boxes with a perfume and body care in the same scent.
