What’s the difference between eau de parfum and eau de toilette?
The difference is the concentration of perfume oils. Eau de toilette has less, smells lighter and fades faster. Eau de parfum has more, is more intense and lasts for more hours.
The types at a glance
| Type | Concentration (typical) | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Eau de cologne | very low | 1–2 hours |
| Eau de toilette | low | 3–5 hours |
| Eau de parfum | high | 5–8 hours |
| Parfum / extrait | very high | 8+ hours |
The hours are a guide: the same perfume lasts differently on dry and oily skin, and less in the heat.
Which to choose
- Office, university, summer: something lighter. You want it noticed by whoever comes close, not by the whole floor.
- Evenings, winter, celebrations: something denser, with vanilla, amber or woods.
- If in doubt: go for the more intense one and wear less. You can always add one more spray.
And what about essence?
In our shops you can raise the concentration of the perfume you’ve chosen with extra essence for +1 € per ml. It’s the simplest way to make a perfume more intense without switching to a different one.
